At 11:20am on December 3, 1959, our national Flag, Anthem and State Crest were formally presented to fellow Singaporeans for the first time.

Singapore National Flag /

Red symbolises "universal brotherhood and equality of man" / 红色象征“普遍的兄弟情谊和人的平等”

White symbolises "pervading and everlasting purity and virtue" /

Crescent moon symbolises "young nation on the ascendant" /

Five stars symbolise "the nation's ideals of democracy, peace, progress, justice and equality" /

Singapore State Crest /

The heraldic symbol representing the Southeast Asian island nation of Singapore /

At the centre of the emblem is a red shield bearing a white crescent (a new moon, representing a rising young nation) /

Five white stars (representing various national ideals including multiculturalism) /

Below them is a blue ribbon inscribed with "Majulah Singapura" in gold, Malay for "Onward Singapore" / 下面是一条蓝绶带,上面用马来语书写着金色的“Majulah Singapura”(“前进吧,新加坡”)

To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the launch of the national symbol, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra re-recorded our national anthem.

This re-recording is the first update to the anthem since the previous official version recorded in 2001.

The main difference is that the new recording is of higher quality, which will allow listeners to hear the nuances of the musical arrangement, especially in larger venues with modern sound systems.

The tempo has also been adjusted slightly.

Stainless Steel Cutlery

Up in the sky - In the cabin

Found an impressive thing during a recent flight.

SilkAir actually provides stainless steel cutlery.

Once upon a time, stainless steel cutlery was a symbol of souvenirs that some flying passengers must collect after eating.

Since 9/11, major airlines have switched to plastic cutlery for safety reasons.

Although disposable plastic cutlery is relatively sanitary, it also creates a lot of waste that is difficult to recycle.

In the context of promoting environmental protection, it is good to see that airlines are using stainless steel cutlery that can be washed and reused.

P/S: In "吃盐比米多?" can see that only business class and above passengers can use stainless steel cutlery.

Loi Krathong

Thailand - Bangkok (Asiatique The Riverfront)

Loi Krathong is a Siamese Festival celebrated annually throughout Thailand.

Loi could be translated as "to float" and Krathong could be translated as "a basket".

In nearby countries and regions with significant southwestern Tai cultures Laos, Shan, Mon, Tanintharyi, Kelantan, Kedah and Xishuangbanna too celebrate the festival.

Thailand is an agriculture based country thus rivers are like their own blood veins.

To show respect to the river, basically the goddess of the river is called Pra Mae Khongkha, Thai people decided to make a Krathong to worship and ask for forgiveness.

The Thais now also see it as a time to wave goodbye to misfortune, wash away sins of the past year, and make wishes for the coming year.

Loi Krathong has attracted many foreigners and gradually evolved from a traditional festival to a carnival.

Loi Krathong is celebrated on the twelfth lunar month of the Thai calendar on the full moon day.

Usually Loi Krathong falls anywhere from mid-October to mid-November in the Gregorian calendar and lasts for few days.

Keep in mind that Loi Krathong date changes every year so it is better to check on that year before planning your trip.

Sentosa Merlion Tower

Singapore - Sentosa

The Merlion Tower was built in 1995

It is the Big Mac of the seven Merlion statues in Singapore.

The plane area is 500 square meters and the height is 37 meters.

The Merlion Tower will be open until the 20th of this month, after which it will be demolished and given way to the future development of Sentosa.

Once again, there is nothing in this world that is permanent.

Suddenly remember an ad phrase: It does not matter whether something can be eternal, so long as you have ever possessed it.

Malaysia - Johor (Sanrio Hello Kitty Town)

Change 变

Singapore - Chinatown

The annual Mid-Autumn Festival is here again.

This year Mid-Autumn Festival, Chang'E is very busy.

What exactly is Chang'E busy with?

Busy appearing in the newspaper and change faces.

The makeup artist Chang'E engaged this year must be cuckoo.

Turned feminine Chang'E into musculine Mulan!

Before and after face change

The main newspapers are scrambling to report

Perhaps the moon is scared by the face changing Chang'E, this year Mid-Autumn Festival full moon is the smallest of the year.

Joke aside, let's know some astronomical facts.

The moon rotates around the earth in an elliptical orbit.

The average distance between the moon and the earth is 384,000 kilometers, so the nearest is 356,000 kilometers and the farthest is 406,000 kilometers.

Due to the distance, through the naked eyes, the diameter of the moon can have a difference of one-eighth in size.

P/S: The English spelling of 嫦娥 is Chang'E, remove the apostrophe and it becomes change; no wonder this year Chang'E needs to change faces! Wathehaha!
