Some visitors entering Thailand on tourist visas have been asked to show immigration officials that they have 20,000Baht before they are allowed into the country.

According to the report, this "increased scrutiny" action on tourist visa holders is to crack down on foreigners who are not genuine tourists but may be working in Thailand illegally.

It is at the personal discretion of individual immigration officers to ask how much baht a tourist has upon entering Thailand.

According to Thailand Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website, holders of a tourist visa must have at least 20,000Baht with them, or 40,000Baht per family, when they enter Thailand.

A lot of people may think that Thai Baht is too small a value to have counterfeit banknotes.

The truth is the 1000Baht counterfeit banknotes are already circulating in the market and people are being cheated and suffered losses.
事实却是1000泰铢的伪钞已经流入市面，也有人被骗而蒙受损失。
Below are some tips on how to identify genuine banknotes: (Information provided by Bank of Thailand)

(1) Feel / 触觉
Genuine banknote paper is made of special paper manufactured from cotton fibre which makes it tougher and more durable.
真钞的纸是用棉纤维制成的特殊纸张制成的，使其更加坚固耐用。
(2) Look / 观察
a. Watermark - The King's portrait watermark is observed on the right side when the banknote is held against the light.
a. 水印 - 当真钞对着灯光时，右侧能观察到国王的肖像水印。
b. Security Thread (Metallic Colour Thread) - On the left side of each banknote, denomination is vertically printed on a metallic colour thread.
b. 安全线（金属色线）- 每张纸币的左侧，金额垂直印刷在金属色线上。
c. See Through Register - This printing press is able to print colour patterns on both sides of the sheets simultaneously, which can be seen by viewing the design against the light.

(3) Tilt / 倾斜
a. Optically Variable Intaglio Ink - Printed with special ink, at the upright corners of 500Baht and 1000Baht banknotes are optically variable when viewing at different angles.

b. Metallic Hologram Foil stripe - On the front side of 100Baht, 500Baht and 1000Baht denominations, metallic hologram foil stripe is vertically embedded in the left of the note.

c. Latent Numbers - The hidden Arabic numerals in the elaborate patterned are on the lower left corner of every banknote.

a. Magnifying Glass - Tiny numerals and letters are fused into designs and printed by both the intaglio and litho printing processes.

b. Ultraviolet Lamp - The special luminescent characteristics which appear under ultraviolet light.
