During the Tang dynasty in the reign of Emperor Tang Taizong, warrior monks from Henan Shaolin were deployed from the Shaolin Monastery to combat piracy.
Emperor Tang Taizong passed a special imperial order to Lin Tanzong, Abbot of Northern Shaolin Monastery, to build a Shaolin Monastery in the South which was known as the Southern Shaolin Monastery.
During the early Qing dynasty, the Southern Shaolin Monastery was completely razed due to anti-Qing.
